Verdict

Many of the contenders here re-appose one another after their clash in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury. The true worth of that form is questionable as they crawled through the early stages of that contest and those on the pace had a distinct advantage. CESARE is selected to land that elusive first Group one victory. James Fanshawe's seven-year-old holds an outstanding record on the straight track at Ascot and appeared to be one of those that could be considered unlucky in the Lockinge. His rider had to switch right around the whole field there and he then failed to help his rider by drifting under pressure. Fourth in this race last year, he can go three places better with a fast pace assured. Darjina was a disappointment at Longchamp last time behind her stable companion Sageburg but the quicker conditions on offer will suit here. She remains a filly of huge potential but the worry his her record at the venue as she has disappointed on her two outings at Ascot. It is possible Darjina needed that outing last time and obviously connections believe she holds more solid claims as Christophe Soumillon continues his partnership with the filly. Finsceal Beo drops back to the mile here after appearing to be outstayed by Duke Of Marmalade in the Tattersalls Gold Cup last time. There is just a lingering doubt about her current form as it does look to have taken a dip. Haradasun is another that would not have been suited by the slow pace in the Lockinge as he has winning form over 10 furlongs in Austrailia. The presence of Honoured Guest is to ensure that the same situation does not occur once again. Arabian Gleam, third in the Jersey Stakes at this meeting last year, is another to consider but Cesare is the selection.
