        Verdict

Considering this is one of the most competitive sprint handicaps of the season, it’s an interesting fact that four of the last eight winners have been the subject of gambles and have started at single-figure odds. Only one of the last 10 winners had a low draw and five-year-olds have won the last four renewals. Ante-post favourite Culturati is only four, however, and needed a penalty to get into the race, though bolted up at Newmarket following a lengthy absence and could still be a step ahead of the handicapper. Last year’s winner Outback Traveller is only 4lb higher and Eastern Impact is a former Group 3 winner who ran well at Newmarket last month. PROJECTION finished sixth in that race but was not unduly punished in the closing stages and the outing will have blown away any cobwebs – he’s always looked capable of winning a race like this and Kieran Shoemark’s claim will help. Raucous is blinkered after finishing fourth at Windsor but still holds Intisaab on the form book. Buckstay usually runs well here and goes well fresh but Normandy Barriere has been raised a further 4lb since last month’s course and distance victory and could be found wanting.
