In depth

Verdict

Full Irish, Through The Rye and Darnley look the ones to concentrate on in this open affair but the confident vote goes to Full Irish. The gelding from the bang in-form Len Lungo yard was a fair hurdler, and has reportedly schooled well ahead of this, his chasing bow. He will like the ground and will be hard to beat, if his jumping holds up. Through The Rye rates the main danger on hurdling form but this front runner took a heavy fall on his chasing debut when an odds on favourite at Catterick last time and it remains to be seen if his confidence has been affected, so he is opposed. Darnley is also worthy of respect. The six-year-old won a novice hurdle in a canter when last seen in May and looks the sort to make a chaser but he is entitled to need the run on his return from a lay off. Of the remainder Gofagold has some of experience of chasing and his second behind Byron Lamb would give him definite place claims but that came on heavy ground so we are happy to stick with Full Irish.
