      Verdict

Megalo Maniac gets the vote over Malelane, Compton Lad and Martharum in a race that should take little winning. There are duck eggs all over the place here in a mediocre finale, and Richard Fahey must be pretty confident about the chances of Megalo Maniac who has at least been runner-up on each of his last two outings. The latest of those efforts was over the course-and-distance nine days ago when he finished just ahead of another of today's rivals Compton Lad who belied his odds of 66-1 in finishing third. They both raced from a couple of pounds out of the handicap that day and meet off levels here, so strictly speaking there should not be much between the pair again. However, the selection is more reliable, and as long as he handles the ground, should maintain the form. Malelane produced her best effort at Musselburgh last time but has a bit to find, while Martharum looks like she needs a step up to six furlongs. The rest make little or no appeal, and we return to Megalo Maniac as the answer.
