In depth

Verdict

Royal Hector is given the confident vote here with Phar Jeffen and Red Nose Lady the pair most likely to chase him home. The selection won well on Monday at Plumpton when beating Avas Delight, and even with a 7lbs penalty for that success, this progressive 5-year-old from the Martin Pipe yard still looks to be one step ahead of the handicapper. Phar Jeffen beat Dickens at Lingfield last time in heavy ground, but he was far from convincing that day as he was on and off the bridle throughout and it is hard to see him recording back-to-back wins in this better race. Red Nose Lady is eased in grade slightly but she looks to have plenty to find as she was well beaten behind Buffalo Bill at Warwick last time. Alcopop has shown a fair level of form and is from a leading yard so is another to consider, but for the winner it is difficult to get away from Royal Hector who looks to have an outstanding chance of completing the hat-trick.
