In depth

Verdict

Serpentaria gets the nod over Thewhirlingdervish and Great As Gold in a race that Sir Mark Prescott picked up last year with a similarly handicapped individual. Serpentaria has bags more scope than the rest of her opponents and it would not come as a surprise to see the daughter of Golden Snake strike a blow for the fairer sex. Her dam is a half-sister to top-class stayer Celeric, so there is stamina hidden away in her pedigree. Great As Gold and Thewhirlingdervish are totally exposed and do nothing quickly. However, they will no doubt be waiting in the wings if the selection's legs for the trip start to give way. Thewhirlingdervish makes the most appeal on this occasion, but he may have to settle for minor honours if Serpentaria finds the anticipated improvement.
