Verdict

Having apparently tried everything to get a win out of AUTUMN BLADES in handicaps, Alan Bailey now turns to a claimer and he is weighted to win this, while Twilight Star should really be the only one to make a race of it. Seven furlongs and fast ground suit the four-year-old gelding, who has had an unlucky 13 attempts to add another success story to his CV since winning at Southwell in March, and he has run some really good races in defeat. Consistency is one of his strong points and if he can once again produce his running then he can end that losing streak. Twilight Star is 4lbs worse off than if this were a handicap and Roger Teal's gelding has also run some nice races since his last win at Sandown in April. He is effective enough over this trip to make the frame, though he might be better over a mile, and ideally would prefer slower ground. Although Royal Challenge has a 7f win to his name, the evidence suggests that he is better over shorter, and he has a few pounds to find with the selection, meaning we will oppose. Both Norcroft and Lancaster Lad have too much to find to be taken seriously as win bets and Autumn Blades can score.
