In depth

Verdict

Paris Bell looks the pick of the weights in this fascinating handicap and is chosen to beat Imperial Echo and Blackheath. Tim Easterby's three-year-old would have go a lot closer to Middleton Grey in a Newmarket handicap last time but for being hampered at a vital stage. In the end he was beaten just over three lengths, with a better start, and more luck in running, he can reward supporters this afternoon. Imperial Echo is now back to a winning mark after some disappointing efforts. He has been rated as high as 89 and so if he could return to his best he should be in the shake up. Blackheath is in good heart at present and chased home the well handicapped Undeterred at Hamilton last time. He may need to drop a few pounds before winning again, but should make his presence felt. Prince Namid looks the pick of the remainder, but if Paris Bell avoids trouble this afternoon he should go very close indeed.
