In depth

Verdict

Barbirolli is potentially well treated in this very poor apprentice handicap but with conditions just looking out of his favour we instead give the verdict to BORDER TALE with Bert's Memory also on our mind. Consistency has been the pick's modus operandi of late having found just the one too good in each of his last three starts on the level. His latest appearance was a solid run over timber and with no problems about his stamina he should go well off a fair mark. Bert's Memory returned from a lengthy absence to run a good in second place last time on his first attempt over a middle distance trip. He's potentially well weighted at just a pound higher than his last winning mark and needs to be added to calculations. Barbirolli is a full three pounds below his last winning rating and while that puts him in the picture he would prefer the ground a little quicker. Promise Maker was quite comfortably held in a runners-up spot last time but has had her mark raised three pounds, which might just put an end to her chances so in a very trappy race Border Tale has the vote.
