Verdict

No UK-trained runners this year but Ballydoyle send three, though Highland Reel and War Envoy were both well beaten in the French 2000 Guineas at Longchamp recently. Cape Clear Island is partnered by Ryan Moore but found the Andre Fabre-trained Ampere too good in a Group 2 at Longchamp on the same day. Fabre goes with the Guineas runner-up New Bay in this and he should be in the mix. KARAKTAR won a Group 3 trial with the minimum of fuss at Longchamp, where he beat High Dynamite, and Alain De Royer-Dupre knows what it takes to win this prize. The likely favourite may prove good enough but others to consider include War Dispatch, who landed a trial over track and trip last time, and Silverware and Sumbal remain unbeaten after picking up Group races on their latest starts, though face their stiffest tasks so far.
