Ted Spread and Master Of Arts were both well backed for the Imperial Cup at Sandown on Saturday but neither ever looked like winning. Ubi Ace and Raya Star have already enjoyed a profitable season but could be in the handicapper's grip now, though the latter had Olofi, Sailors Warn, Via Galilei, Desert Cry and Alarazi behind at Newbury last time and should finish ahead of that quintet again. Harry Derham takes 7lb off course winner Edgardo Sol and he could play a part, but this may be too tough for novices Magnifique Etoile and Ingleby Spirit. Snap Tie is undeniably well handicapped but will surely need this and preference is for REDERA. Tony Martin's charge is a proven good ground performer and was returning from a break when a fast-finishing third at Leopardstown last month. His trainer gave him a spin around here in November and he should be attractively priced for a return to winning ways. Compatriot Alderwood also makes some appeal with McCoy on board, while the enigmatic Lifestyle could be the type to run well in a race of this nature and shouldn't be discounted.
