    Verdict

Mac The Knife sets a fair standard but is more exposed than most of these and, unless the newcomer Nightspot proves to be out of the ordinary, this is expected to go to Mick Channon's Straw Poll. The son of Dixieland Band had to be pushed out to beat Marcus Eile by a short head on rain-softened ground at Newcastle in March. However, that was a decent contest and, with the faster surface and longer trip to suit, Straw Poll is taken to follow up. Mac The Knife has run well, without winning, in all three starts since making a winning debut and provides the main danger to the selection. The market may provide the best guide to the claims of Roger Charlton's Night Spot, a half-brother to the useful Allergy. Firebelly and Just One Look make limited appeal.
