MUSICAL MAZE may have further improvement to come, and gets our vote ahead of Oriental Cavalier and Embsay Crag. It's a trappy looking contest though, with none in any great form, and some making their handicap debut. Placed in a fillies' race last time out, this is a slight step up in trip for Musical Maze, whose yard haven't been in great form. The anticipated rain could aid his cause. Aside from the selection, Embsay Crag is the only other one here to have ever won, but that was also over seven furlongs with some cut in the ground. This is the first time he's raced beyond a mile and he stays competitive with a three pound claimer doing the steering. Oriental Cavalier's best form came in a similar race in similar conditions two runs back, and we know he gets the trip. Mister Bombastic is an interesting one, making his handicap debut and having his first run for local trainer Nicky Vaughan. Any market support would encourage us. However in a poor contest, with more negatives than positives about most of them (if not all), we'll tentatively side with Musical Maze.
