Verdict

CRUCIATUS was expected to lose his maiden tag at Down Royal after a couple of fine runs but probably bumped into a smart one in No Needs Never. The remainder were well beaten off and compensation awaits though he faces a host of unexposed types and newcomers. Dumouriez comes into the first category after a very encouraging debut at Leopardstown while Pulse Of Shanghai looked very inexperienced at Roscommon. Aidan O'Brien saddles three newcomers. Barbados is a full-brother to the top-class Maybe and other winners, Sydney Opera House is a half-brother to Melbourne Cup winner Rekindling amongst several winners but Blenheim Palace, who may well be the pick at this stage, is a full-brother to the brilliant Churchill and 6f two-year-old winner Clemmie. Pasley and Musalsal are others to note for the future.
