Verdict

A nice prize has attracted a strong field including a quartet from Yorkshire. Mick Easterby's Perfect Pasture went up 7lb for winning a very strong Pontefract handicap in April but has continued to run well and wouldn't be coming here unless thought capable of a big effort. George Bowen had the worst of the draw when landing a major handicap over the track and trip in September from In Salutem, who was disqualified, and MASTER SPEAKER. The last-named may well have the best of the draw this time and is taken to reverse the form with Richard Fahey's charge and land this. Kevin Ryan runs Kibaar and Distant Past, though both look to have plenty to do, as does Newmarket challenger Fairway To Heaven. Downforce beat subsequent winner Penny Pepper easily here in May and though 12lb higher has to be respected as he hasn't had much racing.
