Verdict

It's a very long time since the veteran Pires was winning on the Flat and he hasn't been going so well over jumps though he could hardly get any lower in the ratings and Tony Martin won the race a year ago. Mandatario was well beaten in the race last year but showed he stayed the trip when scoring at Dundalk with today's rival Modem behind. Deor was the very easy winner of a 1m7f Wexford maiden before a very good run two days later at Roscommon over half-a-mile shorter. He should go well but JENNIES JEWEL (NAP) will take all the beating. She scored at Galway the last time she ran on the Flat in October and has been in tremendous form over the winter, finishing runner-up in the Champion Stayers Hurdle at Punchestown on her most recent start. Sense Of Victory has yet to prove she stays the trip or acts on fast going but Ryan Moore's presence on Botany Bay catches the eye as his mount was beaten less than a length in York's Melrose Handicap in August.
