Verdict

Although there are three entries from Ballydoyle, only Was can be seriously entertained as a possibly winner as both Devotion and Twirl were well beaten at Royal Ascot, the latter when a long way behind PRINCESS HIGHWAY in the Ribblesdale with Shirocco Star in third. The winner had beaten Was into third place at Naas in May and is improving so fast that she can again take care of the subsequent Epsom Oaks heroine though she too is of course open to more improvement. The fly in the ointment for the home-based contingent is Great Heavens, a full sister to Nathaniel. She looked a very high-class performer when landing the Lancashire Oaks from older rivals a fortnight ago and looks certain to be in the firing line at the finish.
