In depth

Verdict

A tough opener with many in with chances but Michelle Ma Belle looked most unlucky last time and may be able to gain compensation. Sylvester Kirk's filly confirmed the merit of previous promise when landing a Bath maiden over 5f last month and showed she is very much on the upgrade when narrowly denied on her handicap bow over this trip at Epsom last week. The daughter of Shareef Dancer was in the process of making headway when finding trouble in running 2f out before staying on strongly to be beaten a head at the line. It is fair to assume that she would have prevailed otherwise and she is a winner without a penalty here. Golden Nun disappointed last time but is better judged on a previous second at Newmarket and can confirm placings with Summer Lightning (fifth) and Good Health (fifth) but is more exposed and there may not be as much improvement to come as the selection. Convent Girl ran well to chase home a useful yardstick over 7f at Goodwood last time and this free going sort will not be inconvenienced by the drop in trip but recent Beverley winner Gaelic Princess faces a stiffer task having been raised 8lb.
