Verdict

MISTOFFELEES is arguably the most interesting runner in the field and is preferred to Hunters Belt, Tropical Bachelor and Silk Drum who are all of interest. The selection represents the powerful Newmarket yard of Luca Cumani and progressed steadily with each of his three starts last season. He hasn't achieved a great deal to date but it will be hugely surprising if this well related colt doesn't prove to be far better than his initial mark in time and he may be able to provide his young apprentice with a first winner under Rules. Hunters Belt is another moving into handicap company for the first time and the bumper winner has shown a little more making the frame twice in three starts. He may well have more to offer as a handicapper and makes the short-list. Tropical Bachelor has a top apprentice in the plate but is exposed as average and a bigger challenge may be posed by Silk Drum who is having his first start on the level for almost two years. Kataragama is another unexposed runner that should be monitored for support but it may prove devilishly difficult to get the better of Mistoffelees who could have his supporters purring with pleasure.
