Verdict

A small but interesting field for this conditions race in which Ballydoyle have two entries. GENERAL MACARTHUR is currently a 33/1 chance for the Derby but those odds are likely to contract if the full-brother to Horatio Nelson can take this. He looked in need of experience on both starts last season but managed to win here in September and should be a different proposition this time around. Long Island South, who is in the St James's Palace Stakes, made an extremely encouraging debut over the track and trip when beating the experienced Zilbyr, who has been beaten subsequently. The latter was also around the same distance behind Mulligatawny here in March so Jessica Harrington's charge is no forlorn hope. Midnight Crossing was only just behind O'Brien's How High The Moon at the Curragh in August so the trainer should know how he stands with Eddie Lynam's filly.
