Verdict

A chance is taken with GO FOR ONE ahead of more obvious candidates like Oracle Des Mottes and Smoke Trail. We have concerns regarding the slow start to the season that the Williams yard has made but the yard will find their form sooner rather than later and they have an interesting recruit on their hands here. Go For One looked potentially useful when winning a coupe of races for David Wintle in 2006 but has ended up losing his way. As a result, he's potentially well handicapped if the change of yards has recharged the batteries. Oracle Des Mottes has been in the care of Richard Barber recently and merits respect given his connections but he is fairly exposed as are a number of these. Smoke Trail hasn't been the most consistent but kept on well to win at Wincanton so enters calculations along with a number who are making their seasonal returns and one, South Bank, that is making his chase bow. The handicapper adopted a prudent approach to Palmers Peak's defeat of Flight Leader and he's worth a second look but this has an open look to it and we'll take a chance with Go For One.
