In depth

Verdict

WAR FOOTING dropped a heavy hint last time and he is confidently selected in favour of Sir Winston and Bernard. Brendan Powell's charge has gone up 2lb for a recent defeat at Warwick but he did not do a lot wrong on that occasion and in fairness, had he finished infront, the handicapper would have had licence to put him up by even more. Granted, he does have a big weight to carry but the yard are having winners and it would be disappointing were he not to run well. Victor Dartnall has his horses in good order though Sir Winston has been unable to add to his success at Taunton earlier in the season. He isn't particularly quick as conveyances go though he does not lack for resolution. Bernard has nothing to recommend him on recent form but Kevin Bishop's yard are shrewd and if the going firms up, he should not be ruled out too readily. Marigolds Way was a fair hurdler on her day though has not shown much over the fences. Mewstone has been disappointing thus far over chase fences but could appreciate this drop into handicap company. Qualypso d'Allier has to reverse form with our selection though on a strict line, has to improve again to go close. War Footing could conceivably be well treated off this mark and has to be selected accordingly.
