Verdict

It was soft going at Chester when DIOCLETIAN (NAP) just failed failed to catch the winner. Andrew Balding’s charge finished seven lengths clear of the rest and gets the vote on that form. Fannie By Gaslight has a shout on last season’s second over today’s trip at Nottingham but Goscote disappointed on her handicap debut having won a maiden at the latter track before that. General Zoff has been thereabouts recently and handles soft ground but the going is a worry for Darksideoftarnside and the unexposed Kashagan is preferred stepping up in trip.
