In depth

Verdict

The first division of an ordinary maiden auction event and this appears a good opportunity for Polish Trick to open his account at the main expense of Ashfield while Colour Wheel and Vengerov are others to consider. Brendan Powell's charge showed the benefit of his debut outing when finishing a close runner-up in a similar event over this trip at Lingfield last month, giving the strong impression that a race of this nature is well within his compass. With further improvement anticipated from this progressive son of Clever Trick, he should take the beating. Ashfield had the advantage of the draw when chasing home a well regarded type on her debut at Newmarket and is entitled to be sharper for the experience so may prove the biggest danger. Colour Wheel made little impact on his Windsor debut in early June and has been absent since but is a well-bred colt who it would be unwise to dismiss. Vengerov ran below expectations last time but has claims on his initial effort when showing ability in a fair Newmarket maiden in late July and may appreciate the step up in trip so shouldn't be written off.
