In depth

Verdict

African Dawn ran well enough on his first start since joining Gerald Cottrell and is taken to open his account for new connections at the main expense of Make My Hay and Adjiram. The last mentioned has been equipping himself well in Banded stakes races of late but may find this company too hot so a bigger threat may come from Make My Hay. A Banded stakes winner at Kempton last month, he showed improved form when second at Windsor subsequently and has to be respected. Top weight Escalade comes from the in-form stable of Mark Brisbourne and can usually be relied upon to run up to form. However, he is set to drop 3lbs in future handicaps and may have too much weight. A market move for Cristoforo would be of interest, as it would for Perida, while Summer Cherry has shown signs of a return to form of late and is another worthy of a mention. This may not be as competitive as the numbers suggest though and African Dawn, who was not beaten far last time, looks the one to be on.
