In depth

Verdict

Brendan Powell has a strong hand here, with Mardi Roberta preferred to his other penalised runner Owlesbury Dream. Up-and-coming Sam Jones partners Mardi Roberta who is a full-sister to the stable's useful chaser Big Rob. She looks to have a bright future judged on her emphatic course-and-distance success in November, and although failing to defy a penalty here next time, the mare is fancied to bounce back, with the main danger appearing to be one of her two stablemates, Owlesbury Dream. She opened her account at the first time of asking at Ludlow last month despite looking green, and should go well despite her rise in the weights, while of the remainder, Irish Wedding should be noted in the market. There is certainly plenty of untapped potential for the future on show, but for now we are happy to stick with Mardi Roberta who can make experience count.
