Verdict

VINO GRIEGO can defy a penalty now that he's found his form although Ryde Back and Bangkok Pete should make a race of it. Gary Moore had high hopes for his classy bumper performer at the start of the season but he produced a tame effort on his hurdling bow at Ascot before taking a small step forwards in a strong race at Sandown. The market spoke strongly in his favour ahead of his third start at Wincanton and didn't disappoint his supporters with a bloodless victory; the second looks a regressive performer but Vino Griego has the potential to go on to better things. Ryde Back produced a faultless display on her hurdling bow to beat a subsequent winner in Asturienne. She's from a top class family, the testing conditions should bring her stamina into play and she's entitled to improve. Bangkok Pete will appreciate being stepped back up in trip following a reverse at Huntingdon and he can prove more competitive with conditions to suit. Ashfield's Dream is another penalised runner that merits respect as he showed improved form when second at Newbury behind the Cheltenham bound Quantativeeasing although he does have to prove his effectiveness on softer ground. The majority of the remainder will struggle to match strides with these above average performers; best of whom may be Vino Griego.
