    Verdict

The imaginatively named DUNCAN is selected as the best option in the maiden. Lyceana and Issabella Glyn make the most appeal from the rest, although support for Inquest would also be noteworthy. The last named missed the break on his debut at Windsor but made good ground near the finish. He was not extended when his chance had gone and an improved effort would hardly be a bolt from the blue today. Issabella Glyn made her debut at the same time as Infallible, so the form of her introduction has obviously worked out well. She is bred to come into her own this year and, like a number of contenders on show today, she is one to scribe in the notebooks. Lyceana can be expected to step up on her first start and is another to keep a close eye on in the betting market. As is the case with Isabella Glyn, she gets the fillies allowance this afternoon, so should be given due reverence as a likely type. However, Duncan has shown plenty of promise in each of his previous outings and this half-brother to the stable's smart stayer Samuel can help John Dunlop (won this race with Valley Of Song in 2001) grace the winner's enclosure at Goodwood once more if all goes to plan.
