In depth

Verdict

Godolphin have done well with their juveniles this term so Storm Silk has to be respected but the son of Stormin Fever is likely to come into his own over middle distances next term so preference is for Moth Ball, who gets the vote over Goodwood Spirit. The last mentioned has found one too good in each of his two starts so far and is entitled to be thereabouts again under Kieren Fallon. Mick Channon's Yajbill has a similar profile and is another to consider along with Fulke Johnson Houghton's Averting and Richard Hannon's Transgress, although the latter disappointed on his most recent start. Gerard Butler's Cordage is likely to need more time so preference is for Moth Ball. Jamie Osborne's colt made an encouraging start to his career when finding just Godolphin's Nightfall too good in a newcomers race at Ascot and lost no caste in defeat behind a useful type at Windsor last time when still running green. There should be plenty more to come form the son of Royal Applause, who is taken to open his account today.
