Verdict

Highland Reel won this for Aidan O'Brien in 2014 and WAR DECREE can follow suit. A winner at Leopardstown on his debut, he couldn't get past Boynton in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket and may just have a bit more scope than the winner, who had won here on his debut. The pair pulled well clear of the third, who is trained by Richard Hannon, and the yard won this four years in succession from 2010. They are represented this time by Larchmont Lad, an impressive winner at Sandown and certain to have come on for the experience, and also easy Nottingham winner Hakeem plus Salisbury 5f winner Repton. Medieval won over 6f on soft ground at Newbury and appeared to be caught flat-footed over that trip in the Coventry Stakes but he battled on well and is certain to be suited by the extra furlong.
