Verdict

Newmarket third Assizes looks the pick of Mark Johnston's trio but soft ground could be a problem. Calaf, Pokfulham and Staff Sergeant may also be better on a quicker surface but in-form Edmaaj won't be inconvenienced and should go close again while Cape Rising won on soft going over 1m6f at Haydock last month and will be staying on when others have cried enough. LEXINGTON BAY came good around this time last year and showed a bit more when second in a four-runner race at Nottingham 10 days ago. He's still a couple of pounds higher than his last winning mark but Lucy Alexander takes off 3lb and Richard Fahey's four-year-old could be the one today.
