Brave Bear can land another course and distance victory at the expense of Flying Heart, Brut and Howards Princess. This is a fairly competitive start to proceedings, but hopefully Brave Bear will prove up to the task, as she already has one win here to her credit. That was on soft ground back in June, but since then she has dispelled the theory by her trainer that she needs give underfoot to be seen to best effect by making all at Carlisle a fortnight ago. Granted she had a high draw that day and it was not the best of races, but she still looked game enough. Turned out at Thirsk just two days later, she failed to defy a six-pound penalty in finishing second but may not have stayed the extra furlong anyway, and the drop back to the minimum here should reap rewards. She beat Flying Heart last time and meet's Mick Channon's runner on the same terms so should have that one held, but Brut could be a danger with Frankie Dettori booked to ride. He too was just found wanting when put over six furlongs on his latest visit and will benefit from the drop back, and in addition meets his conqueror Howards Princess on much better terms. It should be close, but Brave Bear is taken to make all.
