      Verdict

Kevin Ryan's string is operating at a lower than normal strike rate so far this term but the yard has found form of late, as indicated by two big handicap successes at Royal Ascot last week. HOPES N DREAMS can maintain that improvement here under optimum conditions and follow up a recent course success. Brian Toomey's claim offsets the 3lb rise for that victory. Sir Pedro had shown little since making a winning juvenile debut but suddenly found his form last time in a typically competitive York sprint. He must be on the premises if repeating that level for the in-form Charles Hills. Barkston Ash should run his race as usual off top weight but the combination of a 6lb penalty and a rise in class may be enough to prevent Sunraider supplementing recent gains. Bonnie Charlie may be best of the rest.
