    Verdict

Making the short list for this valuable race are Quito, Goodricke and Black Charmer, with the selection being Quito. Quito runs again quickly after his excellent second in the Sprint Cup here and, if none the worse for those exertions, this admirable gelding holds good claims over this longer trip, which will suit better. Goodricke has not raced since winning the 2005 Sprint Cup but, even so, has to be respected although his lack of a run since that Group 1 win has to be a concern about a horse that has no soft-ground form. Last season's Vintage Stakes third, Black Charmer, the consistent Polar Ben, and this season's Bunbury Cup winner, Mine, are all respected but, for the selection, we will stick with Quito.
