In depth

Verdict

In an interesting but tricky opener, we will side with Socceroo ahead of Edie Superstar, Janina and Twilight Belle. Let's mention a few of these. Areweplayingout showed some promise on her Lingfield debut; Bonny Rose hails from a strong yard and the pedigree looks okay in the context of this race; Cayman Fox's debut run behind the Brocklesby winner Mister Hardy affords her respect; Eastern Romance is from a family that her trainer knows well and she cost 30,000 guineas; Tim Easterby also knows the family of Eboracum Dream well and she too has to be given some thought; Edie Superstar cost 260,000 dollars and is related to four winners; Janina cost 110,000 guineas and her dam was a high-class sprinter; Micky Channon's Jennifers Joy cost 150,000 euros, while Socceroo, a daughter of Choisir, cost 46,000 guineas. Finally, the Brian Meehan-trained Twilight Belle cost 87,000 guineas and is another to warrant plenty of respect. Overall, it is a very hard race to assess and Socceroo is a tentative choice.
