Shingle Street is the one to beat, with Gortumblo, Pseudonym and newcomer Outside Half seen as potential dangers. Shingle Street was not winning out of turn when bolting up at Bangor last time, having been placed on a couple of occasions earlier. A steady pace helped his cause at the Welsh track, and as he is gaining in confidence there should be more to come from the gelding. Despite not getting the best of luck in running early, Gortumblo stuck to his task well scoring at Newton Abbot but he comes up against a progressive sort in the selection and looks booked for second best. Pseudonym was a bit too keen at Fontwell on his second start and if he learns to settle then he should have no problem picking up a small hurdles race in future. There are quite a few debutantes including Outside Half, a maiden on the Flat. Timmy Murphy is an eye-catching booking in the saddle so any support in the ring for Bill Musson's charge should be noted, but Shingle Street should have too much knowhow for them all and gets a confident vote.
