In depth

Verdict

A competitive staying handicap where a few have chances but we will side with Kempski to come good again, with Overserved, Piraeus, Skenfrith and Nelson Du Ronceray others to consider. The selection sees this trip out nicely, has gone well here without winning, and loves to get his toe in. His third last time at Newcastle reads well enough considering he finished ahead of a subsequent winner and although he has gone up a few pounds again he looks set to go very well once more. Overserved is an obvious danger. He finished behind Kempski at Ayr last year but has been improving since and is not passed over lightly given that he has conditions to suit. However, conceding a stone to the selection may prove his undoing. Piraeus won last time at Catterick. He stays forever and handles cut and there is every reason to believe he too will be involved. Meanwhile Skenfrith is considered but will probably need an outing or two to be seen to best effect, while Nelson Du Ronceray threatens to show some ability and still has the look of one for the future. For today, however, we take Kempski to score.
