In depth

Verdict

A quality renewal of this Listed contest can go to the admirable Chancellor, who has already proved himself as a Group-class performer and can continue his trainer's cracking start to the season. There are dangers aplenty though and the ultra-tough Scott's View will not take defeat laying down and it is hard to see him finishing out of the frame if his exploits in Dubai have not taken too much out of him. The same has to be said of Nysean, who arrives here after a couple of good blow-outs over in France over the last month or so. However, he does have a 5lb penalty for his Group 3 win in Ireland last June and he is reluctantly passed over in favour of the selection today. Bustan and Island House are old adversaries that also have to be considered as live dangers and add a further dimension to spice up this most valuable prize on the card - although they both need everything to go their way and will keep their supporters guessing right down to the wire. Whereas Piano Star appeals as the best of the four-year-olds and a solid move for Sir Michael Stoute's charge can virtually be guaranteed now that Kieren Fallon has the bit between his teeth again. However, he lacks the experience held by Chancellor, who has been freshened up by the change of scenery in switching from Barry Hills to the more than capable John Dunlop team. The six-year-old has not always had luck on his side in the past but has always given an honest account of himself when he has been fired up for the task. Therefore, as a horse that can go very well when he is fresh, this looks the ideal time to catch Chancellor - especially as Frankie Dettori, who won this last year aboard Parasol, gets the leg up on him for the first time this afternoon. Chancellor's claims are also backed up by Dunlop's record in this race as he has won four of the last ten renewals of this Listed contest.
