COBO BAY could be good enough to land a competitive race at the expense of Red Somerset and Shamir, although at a much bigger price Sunshine Always makes each-way appeal too. Conor Dore's charge likes to dominate and did so devastatingly last time, winning by nine lengths at Carlisle. That was in a claimer but he returns to handicap ranks with his mark of 84 unchanged, so from the best of the draw a repeat performance isn't beyond the realms of belief. Red Somerset's last win also came in a plating race but he ran well enough behind a potentially smart rival last time to be of interest. He's a course and distance winner who will benefit if Cobo Bay goes to quick in front. Shamir is unexposed so could well shrug off the 4lb rise he's incurred for winning over course and distance last time; Fergus Sweeney knows the horse well and we've surely not seen the best of him. Sunshine Always is at his best in big fields here and has a potent turn of foot for the grade; he's not straight-forward but is back down to a good mark and could close the gap on Shamir, who he was behind last time the pair met. Uncle Fred remains 4lbs higher than when last successful and needs further, Miss Glitters was well backed but disappointing off this mark last time and has to show she can win away from Southwell while Classically appears to have been given plenty of weight since winning an ordinary maiden. Cool Hand Jake progressed nicely last year and goes well fresh but Cobo Bay looks the one to beat.
