In depth

Verdict

Maktu is given the tentative vote in another wide open affair with Bold Counsel and Beau Marche put forward as the principle dangers. The selection has shown plenty of promise on his two starts to date and if this colt from the Paul Cole yard can improve for his latest close third behind Torrens at Chepstow then he should take plenty of beating. Bold Counsel is stepped up in trip and this colt from the Brian Meehan yard is another that has shown enough to suggest that he could get competitive here. All his three runs so far have been over 7 furlongs but we expect the step up in trip to play to his strengths and he should go well. Beau Marche is a half-brother to Smokin Beau and he ran his best race so far when second behind Lakesdale over 6 furlongs at Lingfield. However, this longer trip may find him out and on this occasion we are happy to take him on. A market move for any of the newcomers should be noted, but for the winner we return to Maktu
