    Verdict

MEZMAAR was quietly fancied for the Coventry Stakes after impressing on his debut at Haydock. He ruined his chance by pulling too hard and was eased at Ascot but still beaten less than seven lengths. Given plenty of time to mature, Charles Hills' colt should get back on the winning trail in this small field. Samminder looks his likely market rival as his Yarmouth victim, Pickled Pelican, won a nursery by seven lengths last week, though Peter Chapple-Hyam's charge hasn't raced since May. Mr Majeika is fairly consistent but looks up against it on today's terms.
