In depth

Verdict

EREBUS can put in an improved run and win this contest seeing off the likes of contenders Jimmy The Poacher, Danzoe and Rosiliant. Erebus was a winner under Jimmy Fortune at Chepstow earlier this year and it may be worth forgiving his latest run as he had no luck leaving the stalls and was hampered later in the race, whilst Rosiliant has placed a couple of times. Jimmy The Poacher has run over further recently and is interesting dropped in trip but the main challenge may come from Danzoe who wasn't far behind at Windsor last time out. Danzoe was a narrow second in that most recent run and first-time cheek-pieces are applied to find that little bit extra but at the top of the handicap we avoid him here. The selection was over sixteen lengths behind Kuanyao at Salisbury in his latest start but a line can be put through this run as he was unlucky that day. If Sylvester Kirk's runner can rediscover the performance that has provided his sole win it could be enough to emerge victorious today. We give the vote to Erebus.
