    Verdict

Countrywide Flyer seems a little high in the weights at present and, like Blue Empire and Freddie Freccles at the other end of the handicap, has done all of his racing on dirt on the Fibresand circuits so preference is for Skidmark. The selection fulfilled his debut promise when landing a novice stakes race over course and distance last time when having an 86-rated performer back in third place. The handicapper has allotted David Elsworth's colt a mark 79 for his debut in the grade and that looks fair so the son of Pennekamp gets the verdict. Clive Brittain's Boxgrove also won a novice race last time and has to be respected but probably already wants further and may not have the speed of the selection. Whitgift Rock steps up in trip and is not certain to stay but may be better suited than some of these if there is a lack of pace, while Royal Warrant has been off the track for some time and is probably bets watched. Countrywide Flyer appeals most of the Southwell winners but, as we have said, lack of experience here is a concern and we are happy to side with Skidmark.
