In depth

Verdict

Sir Michael Stoute's Chic is an obvious contender having been kept in training as a four-year-old but has yet to prove her effectiveness on ground as testing as this and preference is for Miss Ivanhoe, who is preferred to Gonfilia. The last mentioned represents the Godolphin operation and makes her first start in the UK this season having been running well in Dubai during the winter. She has form in the soft and has to be respected but preference is for Miss Ivanhoe. Geoff Wragg's horses have been in good form at Chester this week; the daughter of Selkirk is a confirmed soft ground horse and is entitled to strip fitter for her recent return at Newmarket. David Loder's Illustrious Miss is unexposed after just one start and could be anything. She makes more appeal than Richard Hannon's Dowager among the classic generation but the vote goes to Miss Ivanhoe.
