In depth

Verdict

Master'n Commander is the pick over Shaheer, King After, Port 'n Starboard and Double Spectre. This is another tricky race for punters to unravel, but with Eddie Ahern to guide him round, Master'n Commander should at least give a good account, and will hopefully pay to support here. Charles Cyzer's inmate has yet to score in 16 career starts, but the feeling is that this 10-furlong trip suits him better than the mile-and-a-half trip over which he was beaten last time, and with a middle-draw in stall seven, the race should pan out for him. Shaheer kept on well behind Our Kes over the course-and-distance last time, and holds Play Up Pompey on that form at least, but his wide draw means that he is worth taking on. King After ran well in defeat over seven furlongs here last time, and this consistent sort is worth more than a second look over today's trip. The selection's stablemate Port 'n Starboard stayed on last time, but may need further, while Double Spectre ran well on Turf last year but may need the run. The tentative vote goes to Master'n Commander.
