Verdict

GRANNY MCPHEE is engaged to run on Monday but if she turns up for this she'll be hard to beat, with Make Amends and Foreign Investment two of those with claims. Alan Bailey's filly ran well over course and distance on the 17th when taking second to a progressive rival. That performance proved if nothing else that she stays the trip and is on good terms with herself, so off the same mark today compensation may await. Make Amends is 7lbs higher than when second over course and distance last time she visited the track, reflecting the fact that the mare has won since at Kempton. She stays this trip and is a largely consistent sort so will be given the chance to go in again by many. Foreign Investment has to prove she stays the trip as this is her first try beyond nine furlongs. However, she gamely ground out a win over that trip last year and remains capable of winning off this mark so providing she's fit a big effort looks likely. Head First should have no problem staying this far but she's up a stone since last taking part in a handicap and, despite a solid second in an above-average claimer last time, that looks harsh. Of more interest is Atacama Sunrise who is just 2lbs higher than when winning a similar contest in December, whilst Blue Eyed Eloise would become of some appeal if market support arrived but she hasn't been seen on the track since 2008 and may be best watched for now. My Sweet Georgia looks set to be outstayed on her return to action whilst in contrast Where's Susie surely needs a mile and a half at least. This isn't the best of races and it provides Granny McPhee with a winning opportunity should she take up her engagement.
