In depth

Verdict

Alpine Retreat only found the Ralph Beckett-trained Lightning Spear too good over 7f at Kempton on debut and is sure to appreciate this extra furlong. Beckett runs the Cape Cross gelding Cape Caster in this but Dursey Island, a son of Elusive Quality, and the stoutly-bred Montaly are more interesting newcomers. ALEX VINO couldn't go the early pace over 7f at Newmarket last month but kept on nicely in the closing stages to finish third. With that run under his belt, he may well be good enough to open his account here.
