        Verdict

        Alpine Reel is the pick over the likes of Speedy Sam, Baan and Punta Galera. Alpine Reel has been in good form at Wolverhampton since returning to action in October, not being out of the first three in any of his three outings at the midlands track. He will have no problem handling this course, and his style of running will help, as he likes to fly home from just off the pace. He still looks fairly treated despite a rise in the weights, and should go close from stall four, with regular rider Adam Kirby to guide him round. Speedy Sam is another that has been a model of consistency, having only been out of the first three once in nine career outings. Karl Burke's charge did not get the clearest of runs on his all-weather bow at Wolverhampton, and in receipt of weight from the selection, can prove a danger. Baan showed signs of a return to form when third at Southwell and is better handicapped on the all-weather than Turf, while Punta Galera has had just the one run here, but gets weight off all, so is another worth a mention. For the winner we return to Alpine Reel.
