In depth

Verdict

A poor opener which should go to Alpine Hideaway, while Silogue and Misty Ridge can chase him home. The selection has been busy on both the level and over hurdles this summer and has proved profitable to follow, with 20/1 and 6/1 successes across the two codes. With course and distance form in the bank and some very poor opposition to race against, Alpine Hideaway's form is consistent enough to suggest that by giving his normal running he can carry off this prize. Silogue is worse off at these weights with the selection, than if this was a handicap, but he too can go well. Three recent one-paced efforts in sellers make him hard to fancy as a winner, but with conditions and trip to suit he can definitely claim a place. Meanwhile Misty Ridge would give them all a bit to think about at his best. The grey gelding has not won since taking a chase here last autumn and having lost his way since then has plummeted down the weights. Anything like his best would be good enough here, but he is not in form and a place may well be his best hope, so we will stick with Alpine Hideaway.
