In depth

Verdict

Le Bernardin won this lucrative prize a year ago from a poor draw after winning a Listed contest the previous month. Although he could only finish fourth in that same race three weeks ago behind today's rival Fitzgerald, who won very easily despite starting 33/1, he can turn the tables though the latter won a handicap here earlier so clearly arrives in outstanding form. Lindo Amor is another former Argentina runner now with Mike De Kock and it will be interesting to see how his stable companion Saltarin Dubai gets on earlier in the day. Charlie Appleby had a hat-trick at the last meeting and Emotionless is something of an unknown having run just three times last season after winning the 2015 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster. Doug Watson has a very strong hand with Cool Cowboy and POLAR RIVER. The former had a tremendous campaign last winter, having beaten Le Bernardin in a Group 3 in March. A couple of recent runs will have put him straight but regular rider Pat Dobbs deserts him for his stable companion. The filly kicked off with four straight wins including the 1000 Guineas and Oaks but her best run came when beaten less than a length in the Derby here and she looks the one to beat with her allowance.
